This week we invite Laura Sutherly, a mom of twins, farm wife and entrepreneur from Troy, to share with us how beef fits in her family meals.
As a mom, it is important to me to have my kids involve
d in the family meals, from preparation to clean-up. During the summer, this activity becomes that much more fun for the family when grilling is involved! Granted, my husband and I would enjoy basic burgers with lettuce, tomato and onion from the garden, but we have grown to love letting our kids add their own touch! With boundaries in place (I think I would veto bananas or marshmallows in my burgers), Samuel and Emma are allowed to select a combination of flavors they want in the burgers or "mini grill meat loafs" as we call it. They've even experimented using RITZ Brown Sugar Cinnamon Crackers—what what an exotic dish that was! Last night, the recipe included Cheez-It®, ketchup and honey mustard.
These little chefs get excited about the challenge, it helps me with the menu and does add a different twist to lean ground beef, a family favorite. Plus, I know it is providing essential vitamins and nutrients for my two growing 8-year-olds!
Let us know what your little chefs prepare with you tonight!

Our family loves to gather around the grill for summertime meals.

Invite your kids to add their own flare to your next grill out!
